About Huckleberry Pawtraits
I create pet portraits using artist-grade materials, working mainly in pastels and coloured pencils.
For my coloured pencil drawings I use Faber-Castell Polychromos pencils, plus Caran d’Ache Luminance and Pablo pencils. For my pastel drawings I use mainly Faber-Castell Pitt pastel pencils together with PanPastels and Unison Colour Soft Pastels.
All drawings are done on Clairefontaine Pastelmat paper which is lightly textured and comes in a variety of colours.
The materials I use have a high lightfast rating, and the paper is acid-free, meaning your portrait should have a long life ahead of it.
About the artist
Hi, I’m Laura, a pet portrait artist living in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire. A lifelong animal lover, I grew up surrounded by cats, dogs, hamsters, and whilst I sadly cannot have a cat or dog where I currently live, I do still have hamsters (and ‘borrow’ my sister’s cats and parents’ dog whenever I can).
I have always loved art and crafts. I went to art school to study textile design, and later became a clock and watch conservator. Then in January 2020, just for fun, I drew my own hamster, Little My. Then I drew some friends’ hamsters, then I started getting asked to draw dogs, cats, and so it grew. I named my business after another of my hamsters, Huckleberry who sadly passed away when he was very young and before I even had a good photograph of him. Whilst I don’t have a picture to remember him by, I can make sure my customers have a beautiful drawing as a lasting memory of their beloved pets.
